Drug Arrests and Vehicle Seizure in Ponchatoula On February 23, 2010, K-9 Officer Mike Hill was patrolling West Pine Street when he observed a White Cadillac traveling west bound that did not have a license plate light, Chief of Police Bry Layrisson reported. Officer Hill initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. While issuing a citation, Officer Marshall Price arrived to assist. A routine computer check for warrants on all occupants revealed Darrell Jacobs, 24, of 665 South Second Street, Ponchatoula, had seven outstanding warrants for Failure to appear. Jacobs was placed under arrest and during a pat down search, Officer Price located two small plastic bags, containing a green leafy material, believed to be marijuana, in his right shoe. Also, in his left shoe, $160.00 cash was located, Layrisson reported.

At that time, the driver, Jai Jacobs, 29, of 14131 Happywoods Drive, Hammond, was detained. Officer Price noticed Jai Jacobs trying to conceal something in his left hand. Officer Price found a plastic bag containing 19 pills believed to be Hydrocodone, Layrisson said. Jai Jacobs then gave verbal consent to officers, to search the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed 14 small plastic bags containing a green leafy material, believed to be marijuana, under the floor mat of the driver’s seat. A third occupant, Stevie Williams, was released with a citation.

Darrell Jacobs was booked with Possession of Marijuana and 7 counts of Failure to Appear and transported to Hammond Police Department Jail. Jai Jacobs was booked with Possession of a controlled dangerous substance-schedule I with intent to distribute, Possession of C.D.S.-schedule II with intent to distribute and a citation for no License Plate Light. He was transported to the Parish Jail. All of the drugs, cash, and the Cadillac were seized by officers. Chief Layrisson reported that this vehicle will be the third one seized by his office in the past twelve months. “Not only are we removing dangerous drugs from our streets, but we’re sending the drug offenders walking. The proceeds raised form the seizure and sale of vehicles involved in drug activity is helping offset our expenses incurred during investigations,” Layrisson said.
