Ponchatoula Police Department Advances in Technology

Ponchatoula, La.- Chief Bry Layrisson announces the implementation of several pieces of equipment that will help the department better serve the citizens of Ponchatoula. The department recently went live with a Computer Aid Dispatch system. This system will allow complaints to be logged in and responded to in a timelier manner. Chief Layrisson also notes that this system keeps an accurate time table of daily activity in the enforcement division. This CAD system was purchased with a grant that was applied for through the state and awarded in February of this year. Also installed in the police department is a new Digital recording system. Chief Layrisson states that all incoming and outgoing phone calls as well as radio traffic is recorded. This is vital to insure quality control of calls for assistance is monitored. Chief Layrisson said he is also in the process of installing a new 700 radio system. This system is scheduled to be completed at the first of the year. Most of this equipment was obtained through a grant from Homeland Security. This radio system will be compatible with other law enforcement departments throughout the state. This would be a vital function in case of natural or manmade disasters. Chief Layrisson noted that the advances in technology has dictated a need for police departments alike to bring their respective departments up to standards.
