Bad headlight results in drug arrest of Ponchy man

06/06/2011--Ponchatoula Police have arrested a 43-year old Ponchatoula man for possession of marijuana during a routine traffic stop. Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson said 43 year old John Smith of 1681 Hwy. 51 N, in Ponchatoula was stopped because of an improper headlight. Upon approaching Smith’s vehicle, Officers detected the smell of marijuana in the vehicle. Smith granted Officer’s permission to search the vehicle. Ponchatoula K-9 Gator gave a positive alert on the vehicle and after further investigation, produced a small baggy containing a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana.Smith was booked on driving under suspension, proper equipment required, and suspected marijuana. Chief Layrisson stated that Smith has an extensive criminal history.

Ponchatoula Police probe vandalism at Community Center

Extensive vandalism committed at Ponchatoula Community Center

PONCHATOULA--06/29/11--On Saturday, June 25, Officers responded to a call at the Ponchatoula Community Center in reference to a possible busted water pipe, according to Chief of Police Bry Layrisson. After further investigation, a water hose was found inserted through the doorway causing 2 – inches of water to cover the entire floor of the building. Chief Layrisson is asking anyone who may have knowledge of this incident; please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-554-5245 or the Ponchatoula Police Department at 985-386-6548. A reward of up to $1000 will be granted for information leading to the identity and/or arrest of the responsible party.
