Vacant residence destroyed by alleged copper thieves in Ponchatoula

PONCHATOULA – Chief Bry Layrisson advised that the Ponchatoula Police Department responded to a call regarding three suspicious black males entering a vacant home on Highway 22 East. 

Upon arrival, police located Kevin Perkins, 20, of 11257 Holy Hill Road, Roseland, walking from the residence.

Jamie James, 23, of 103 Camp Street and Joshua Nickens, 24, of 114 Camp Street were located inside the residence.  James and Nickens were in the process of gathering copper wiring from the home, according to Layrisson. 

Upon further investigation, a black drum containing various copper wiring was located in the trunk of their vehicle.  Perkins was booked with criminal trespassing.  Nickens and James were booked with simple burglary and transported to Amite jail. 

The police department is searching for additional suspects in this investigation, Layrisson said.
