Pursuit Leads to Drug Arrest

Pursuit Leads to Drug Arrest -

Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson reports the arrest of Asanti Wilson (B/M, age 24, Springfield) on the following charges: 8 Counts of Failure to Appear, Speeding 11-20 MPH Over, Poss w/ Intent to Distribute Schedule I Narcotics, Poss w/ Intent to Distribute Schedule II Narcotics, No Driver’s License and Resisting by Flight-Aggarvated Flight. Chief Layrisson states the arrest of Wilson stemmed after an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Wilson’s vehicle, but Wilson disobeyed the attempt and led the officer on a high speed chase that ended after Wilson lost control of the vehicle on I-12 at the I-55 North on ramp.

On January 07, 2014 just after midnight, a Ponchatoula officer clocked a vehicle traveling west on Barringer Dr traveling at 41 MPH in a 25 MPH posted zone. The officer activated the overhead emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver (Wilson) disobeyed the signals and turned north on Hwy 51 towards Hammond. Hammond Police Department was notified of the pursuit and offered their assistance. The vehicle continued northbound on Hwy 51 in speeds in excess of 70 MPH. The vehicle merged onto I-12 westbound with the officer in pursuit. On I-12, the speeds reached in excess of 100 MPH. The officer continued in pursuit, with the emergency lights and siren. The vehicle attempted to merge off of I-12 and onto the northbound I-55 on ramp. Wilson lost control of the vehicle, and the vehicle began to spin several times before coming to rest on the embankment of the ramp. Wilson exited the driver’s door and fled on foot. The officer gave Wilson loud verbal commands to get on the ground, but the commands were ignored by Wilson. Officers with the Hammond Police Department were able to apprehend Wilson and transport him back to the scene, where the pursuing officer positively identified him as the driver that fled. On the driver’s seat of the suspect vehicle in plain view, officers located a clear plastic bag of suspected marijuana. Also in the vehicle, officers located a clear plastic bag containing seven smaller clear plastic bags with a white rocklike substance inside of them. The substance field tested positive for cocaine. The suspect vehicle was removed from the scene by wrecker, and Wilson was booked and jailed in the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on the above charges.

Chief Layrisson advised that Asanti Wilson has had several encounters with the Ponchatoula Police Department beginning in 2005. The arrests includes: Poss w/ Intent to Distribute Sch II (arrested 5 times), Poss w/ Intent to Distribute Sch I (3 times), Resisting an Officer (4 times), Attempted Battery on a Police Officer, Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Poss of a Firearm while in Poss of a CDS, Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling, No driver’s License (7 times) and numerous lesser offenses.

Ponchy Police announce arrest in washeteria theft

Ponchy Police announce arrest in washeteria theft -

Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson reports the arrest of Jonathan Goings for several thefts from coin operated machines from The Oaks Washeteria. On January 10, 2014, Jonathan Goings (age 36, Methvin Dr, Ponchatoula) was arrested on Felony-Theft charges and Possession of Schedule II narcotics.

Chief Layrisson states that the arrest stems from three separate incidents that occurred at The Oaks Washeteria (787 North Seventh St, Ponchatoula). The Ponchatoula PD received a call from the owner of The Oaks on January 02, 2014 concerning someone breaking into the coin operated gaming and vending machines. The incident occurred on December 30, 2013 and was captured on surveillance camera. Surveillance showed a white, male breaking into the machines. On January 03, 2014, the owner called again to report a theft that occurred the night prior. Once again, the coin operated machines were burglarized. The third incident occurred on the morning of January 10, 2014. The police department was called to the laundry mat for the same type of incident involving the same suspect. On the third occasion, the cameras captured the suspect vehicle leaving the scene. The suspect vehicle was a maroon vehicle (possibly Chevy Impala), with a temporary license plate in the rear window and non-matching rims on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Detectives located a vehicle matching that description parked outside of an apartment on Methvin Drive. Detectives made contact with the resident at the apartment. The resident, a white male, came to the door, and detectives positively identified him as the possible suspect. The male (identified as Jonathan Goings) was taken into custody. While patting Goings down, detectives located a yellow pouch in his front pocket containing suspected methamphetamine. Two other individuals were located inside the residence. One individual, Michael Muscarello, was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and was issued a misdemeanor summons. Detectives believe that Goings made off with over $500 from the machines.

Jonathan Goings was transported to the Ponchatoula Police Department where he was booked on the above stated charges and transported to Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Amite for housing. Chief Layrisson stated that Goings may face additional charges stemming from these incidents.
